A core-barrel quotation needs the cutting geometry, rig connection, ground information and supply scope. State whether you need a complete barrel, replacement cutters or a rebuild review so that the offer covers the right assembly.
Can the supplier identify the complete assembly?
Provide the actual rig model and connection dimensions or an authorised connection drawing. Separate pile diameter, shell outside diameter and maximum cutting diameter; they are not interchangeable dimensions.
For an existing tool, send a full view, cutting-ring view and connection close-up with measured references. Identify whether the companion tools are roller-bit or bullet-tooth core barrels and how the core will be removed.

Is the ground and work sequence clear?
Attach the available ground report and identify the drilling interval. Include UCS or RQD only where supported by the report, with the sample or depth context; do not infer them from a rock photograph.
Describe cutting, lifting, core removal and cleaning as separate parts of the cycle. For a performance review, log these intervals and interruptions separately so a slow complete cycle is not automatically attributed to cutting speed.
Turn “1,800 mm barrel” into an unambiguous enquiry
A January 2024 build labelled 1,800 mm used a 1,770 mm maximum cutting diameter, a 1,650 mm steel-ring reference and a 1,530 mm inner cutting diameter. It illustrates why the nominal job size cannot fill every dimension field.
| Input | Example or required entry | Why it changes the offer |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal job size | 1,800 mm in the example. | State the project size separately from the selected tool’s cutting envelope. |
| Maximum / inner cutting diameter | 1,770 / 1,530 mm in this build. | Defines the two working paths and the 120 mm radial groove. |
| Steel ring and barrel shell | 1,650 mm ring reference in this build; state shell OD, wall thickness and length separately. | The ring number does not supply all fabrication dimensions. |
| Connection | Rig model plus dimensioned Kelly-box/drive connection and pin details. | A rig name alone may leave the actual connection variant unresolved. |
| What must be supplied | Complete assembly, cutting ring, bare roller bits, or matched mounting/retention parts. | A replacement-component price and a ready-to-fit assembly cover different work. |
| Core handling and companion tool | Identify the lifting/core-removal sequence and the other tool’s actual cutting diameter. | A barrel that cuts the annulus still needs a workable core-removal and cleaning sequence. |
Use these dimensions only for the identified example. See the 1,800 mm positioning note when reviewing how the geometry was laid out.
